Summary
The Process Metallurgical Engineer will report directly to the Remelt Operations Manager and is an integral part of the Operations leadership team. The position will provide technical support for day-to-day operational activities, leadership for continuous improvement projects, and act as a critical liaison between the Remelt Operations Team and the Technical Team. This role is directly responsible to lead the development and implementation of the Remelt Process Management process, connecting product/process quality expectations and data to both strategic and tactical action. It is critical for this role to act as the process/quality “coach and mentor” through side by side interaction with operations employees, leveraging his/her technical expertise to empower and sustain a quality focused culture ensuring execution of best quality practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science
  • Three to five years of related work experience in the metals industry
  • Melting, Casting, and Heat Treating experience
  • Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement experience
  • Creative problem solving skills with a demonstrated ability to deliver solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with multiple levels within the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in team based activities to accomplish goals
  • Proven ability to lead cross functional teams and resources without direct authority
  • Demonstrated ability to develop productive working relationships with other functional areas within the plant
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Products

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with raw material expectations for products
  • Experience with quality standards such as ISO/QS9000, TS 16949 and Six Sigma / Continuous Improvement techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of SPC and data analysis
  • Proficient user of Minitab or equivalent statistical analysis tools
  • Demonstrated application of Microsoft Access used in conjunction with ODBC tables
  • Project management experience and/or training
