A successful and stable, yet evolving, $40MM business unit within an International manufacturer with global sales approaching one Billion, is presently seeking a Mechanical Designer and/or Design Engineer, to join their East Coast Design Team.  The business unit is dedicated to the custom design and manufacture of chemical processing equipment like pressure vessels and heat exchangers.  I placed the unit's Engineering Manager, and this opportunity was created as part of his reorganization plan for the overall North American Design Team.  They are also seeking another Mechanical Designer to join their West Coast Design Team, located near Ventura, CA.  Excellent career opportunity with wide avenues for professional and technical growth.

Duties:

  • Perform complex design tasks.
  • Reviews customers orders and quotes data submittals to ensure full understanding of specifications for design compliance with applicable codes and customers needs.
  • Emphasize engineering information via CAD drawings and related engineering documentation.
  • Completes a variety of assignments such as drawings, code and other supporting design calculations, BOM and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes.
  • Actively interfaces within engineering and other departments.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Requirements:
  1. An Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) is strongly preferred.  Equivalent experience or a Journeymen certification is acceptable.
  2. A Minimum of 3 to 10 years of experience designing complex mechanical mechanisms within ASME codes or standards is strongly preferred.  Ideal experience will involve the mechanical design of processing equipment and/or associated components (valves) within the oil & gas and/or chemical processing industries (NOT REQUIRED).
  3. Mechanical design experience of pressure vessels, heat exchangers is strongly preferred.
  4. Some exposure to / working knowledge of ASME standards like (Sec. VIII Div. 1 "Boilers & Pressure Vessels" or B31.3 "Process Piping"), as well as TEMA Standards are strongly preferred.  Must have the mechanical design aptitude and the intellectual capability to learn and abide by these standards.
  5. Proficiency in utilizing AutoCAD, MathCAD and other software typically associated with engineering is required.  Strong 3D parametric modeling package (Inventor is a plus) is strongly preferred.
  6. Understands manufacturing requirements and the inspection, examination, and testing requirements to ensure appropriate and necessary levels of quality and completeness of the engineering documentation.  Must know how Engineering Departments function and how information and documentation flow within the department.
